My local music shop has one of these in, I'd never heard of them before but I was very impressed, pretty much Sabian's answer to Constantinople.

The one in the shop is a 20" light ride, and is very washy/crashy but has a great organic wobble to it. They retail quite high I think. Has anyone tried the larger diameter or heavier models? They seem like really great cymbals, I'm curious to find out more!

I've tried them all, but since they are completely hand made, every single one will sound different. The more you can sample before buying the better.

Personally, I like them but I don't think they're worth the money they ask for them. I like my HH medium heavy ride just fine.

I bought both 20 and 22" medium Artisan rides as soon as they hit the first store here, thinking I would end up playing one and having the other sit around for a while as an investment...

Interesting thing is that just the other day I was talking to Sabian Rep Peter Stairs and he told me that there is a ONE YEAR back order on them since they can only make around 25 of them a week... GET THEM WHILE YOU CAN! They sound and look amazing... personally I love the 22" medium. The 20" was a little too high pitched... and these babies are LOUD!

Here is my past thread on them:

P.S. Yes, they are quite expensive, but no more than a K Const... treat them as investments.

I have one too actually (HH Med Heavy... but it's more on the HEAVY side... great definition, but I never use it anymore. Pretty classic Sabian ride sound IMO... sort of pingy.

NOTHING compared to the Artisan though!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">True. The Artisan has way more complex harmonics. I still don't feel that it's worth the money though. If they ever came out with a heavy weight I might be interested.

I'm curious to hear what the Artisan hi-hats sound like next year.

There is a shortage in the sense that many retailers have to wait another year to get more from the Sabian factory after the first couple are sold. This info came right from Peter Stairs, the Canadian Sabian sales rep.
